Farrell shines on The Story
by Steve Pastorino / September 24, 2009
Here in Salt Lake City, we just listened to Jen Farrell's lengthy interview on public radio's The Story. Host Dick Gordon spent about 20 minutes giving Farrell the opportunity to tell her story - from her introduction to women's handball in 2004, to the USA's attempts to qualify for World Championships and Olympic Games, and to the hopes we all have for the 2016 host city announcement that is due in 7 days and 18 hours (not that we're counting).
If you haven't listened, please do so. Our athletes don't often get the chance to tell their story - and Jen is as well-spoken as any athlete in any sport. She's honest, optimistic and inspirational. Download the podcast here.
When asked about Chicago's hopes to win the 2016 bid, Farrell said, "I'll be holding my breath and crossing my fingers."
Us too.
The IOC is expected to announced the 2016 Summer Olympic Games site at approximately 10:00am (USA Mountain time) on Friday, October 2. Chicago, Rio de Janeiro, Madrid and Tokyo are the finalists. USA Team Handball Chairman Dieter Esch will be in Copenhagen for the announcement, and www.usateamhandball.org will have reaction from our sport.
