Progress in Colorado

by Steve Pastorino / June 24, 2009

Mariusz Wartalowicz and I had the opportunity to watch the Colorado Springs Landsharks youth handball club tonight.  The Landsharks are coached by two Olympians - Kathy Rex and Greg Morava - plus USA Women's National Team goalkeeper Anca Stephens.   More than 25 young athletes were dressed in circa-1996 USA National Team uniforms as they continue their aspirations to make the U17 USA National Team that will head to Brazil in September for the PATHF Championships.

Several players have Olympic genes, impressive playing resumes from basketball, lacrosse, soccer and other sports - and at least one has some big-time NBA blood coursing through their veins.  All in all, the group looks ambitious and earnest and there's no doubt some of the athletes will be booking international flights sooner than later.  Kudos to the coaches and players!

Approximately 24 boys and 24 girls are anticipated at the U17 National Team Selection Camp from Aug. 2-8 in Colorado Springs.  Athletes interested in earning an invitation to the camp should visit the Youth National Team page.
