What is the status of the sport of Team Handball in the USA?
The U.S. Olympic Committee granted provisional NGB (National Governing Body) status to USA Team Handball on April 30, 2008. USA Team Handball is headed by a board of directors, including president and chairman Dieter Esch. The NGB is located in Salt Lake City, Utah.
How do you play Team Handball?
Team Handball is a 7-vs-7 team sport played on a 67' x 135' court (larger than a basketball court). Teams attack at goal that is 6'7" tall and 10' wide and a successful scoring attempt results in the award of a single point. Typical final scores in this action-packed game are in the 30's. A regulation game is played in two 30-minute halves with one team timeout per half. The clock stops only for team timeouts, injuries, and at the referee's discretion.
