Youth National Team Selection Camp Announced
USA Team Handball - USA Team Handball May 29, 2009
USA Team Handball invites teenage players to participate in a one-week residential camp for aspiring National Team players in Colorado Springs, Colorado from August 2-8, 2009.
Approximately 48 slots are available - evenly split between male and female athletes. Athletes born in 1992 and 1993 will be competing for berths on the USA Youth National team scheduled to participate this September in Brazil for the Pan American Team Handball Federation Youth championships. These athletes will be given priority for registration.
Male athletes born in 1990-1991 or 1994-1995 - and female athletes born in 1988-1991 or 1994-1995 - will be welcomed on a space-available basis, and be considered for other Cadet, Youth and Junior teams.
The immersion camp will feature six days of two-a-day practices, plus classroom instruction. The camp will be led by a team of USA Team Handball instructors including:
- Mariusz Wartalowicz, Technical Director
- Marko Brezic, West Regional Coach
- Kathy Rex, 1988 Olympian & Coach, Colorado Select
The six-day camp includes accommodations at the U.S. Olympic Training Center and all meals and ground transportation. In addition, participants will receive individualized instruction (1:10 ratio students/instructors), T shirt and more. A licensed Athletic Trainer will be on hand at all sessions.
Cost of the camp is $269 for USATH members and $299 for non-members. Each athlete will also be credited for their paid participation in Regional Camp, Tryout, Colorado Futures, California State Games or Club Nationals. Additionally, scholarships are available (including cost of transportation to Colorado Springs) by filling out a simple application and providing a letter of support from a coach or club administrator approved by USA Team Handball.
Athletes interested in participating must submit a $99 deposit (or scholarship application) to USA Team Handball by July 1, 2009. Upon receipt of all applications, the USATH Technical Director, in consultation with USATH staff and Selection Camp staff, will select and notify those athletes who have been accepted into the camp.
Athletes will be notified on or before that date if they have been accepted to the camp. Balance will be due July 15. USATH shall return, in full, deposits for any athletes who are not selected to participate. For more information, or to make a deposit, please call Dan Bush at (801) 463-2000.
