Germany captured the U-18 Women's World Championships

Franciska Meitzner tallied the game-winner 10 seconds before the final whistle as Germany defeated Denmark, 23-22, to claim the World Women's Junior Championship in Macedonia on Sunday.

Denmark raced to a 9-3 lead in the first quarter hour, but six consecutive German goals produced a halftime stalemate at 13-13. Germany carried a 4-goal lead into the final ten minutes, but a stubborn Denmark squad equalized and briefly led at 20-19, setting the stage for Meitzner's heroics.

Denmark's Camilla Dalby paced all scorers with 65 goals, earning right back honors on the tournament All-Star team. Despite succumbing in the final, Denmark's Sandra Toft was named the tournament's all-star goalkeeper. Hanna Gwon, central back for third-place South Korea, was named tournament MVP.
